The county of Bath and North East Somerset is relatively small with a population of just 178,300. The majority of around half of the total population of the county live within Bath itself. The rest of the population of the county enjoy countryside living with the county stretching into both the Mendip Hills to the south and the Cotswold Hills to the east. Much of the county lies on the River Avon, with many of its tributaries going to other towns and villages within the county.
There are several developments of new homes in Bath and North East Somerset. Many of which are in the surrounding area of the city of Bath itself. Much of the popularity of Bath and North East Somerset is due to its peaceful location with two thirds of the counties area being made up of greenbelt land there are plenty of beautiful sites to see. Many of the new homes are considerably more expensive than other areas of the country, especially those close to the city of Bath itself.
There are two universities within the county both of which are located within the city of Bath. These are the University of Bath and Bath Spa University. The University of Bath is a prestigious university, regularly ranked within the top ten universities in England, which is well-known for expertise in Mathematics and Physical Sciences amongst other subjects. This university opened in 1966 and has over 13,000 students with around a 70:30 split to undergraduate and postgraduate students, respectively. The Bath Spa University, which has only had official university status since 2005, is more associated with cultural and creative studies. This university is much smaller than the other university in the city, with just over half of the amount of students. There is a slightly higher split of postgraduate to undergraduate students of around 35:65 respectively.
There are several transport links with the county of Bath and North East Somerset these include good road links to Bristol and the surrounding area, which lead to good motorway links. There is also the Bath Spa railway station and the Kennet and Avon canal.
