Servite is a housing association, a social business that provides housing, care and support. They run like a commercial business but they put back any profit they make into their work. There are over 2,000 housing associations in the UK, which between them own 1.8 million homes. Servite are one of the larger associations in England with over 18,000 homes. Servite was founded over 60 years ago, by Joan Bartlett. She wanted to help Londoners who had been made homeless by bombing in World War II. In 1945 she opened a home for 22 older people - the very first Servite House.
