The centre of Royston is home to a chalk cave which was discovered in 1742, and which is now preserved underneath the town's central crossroads. The carvings in the cave have led to much speculation about the cave's origin and function. The town hosts an annual Royston Arts Festival in October, and is close to Audley End Stately Home, and six miles from The National Trust's Wimpole Hall and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.
