Buying a new home in Birmingham

Situated in the heart of England, Birmingham is the second largest city in the United Kingdom and is considered to be the social, cultural, financial and commercial centre of the Midlands. Birmingham has a vast range of properties available, from studio apartments to five bedroom houses, and it’s growing exponentially, so it’s no surprise that thousands of people move to the city each year. We have over 35 new build developments in and around Birmingham on our website, so you’re bound to find your dream home. The average house price in Birmingham fluctuates around £275,000, with new homes being slightly more expensive than second-hand established homes. New build homes are, however, much more energy-efficient than second hand homes, so even if you spend more money on purchasing your home, you will save money in the long run on gas and electricity bills.

There are a wide range of home-buying incentives to help you get onto the property ladder. The First Homes Scheme is only available on new build properties, and aims to ensure buyers aren’t priced out of their hometown, especially prevalent in big cities. The homes are sold at a 30-50% discount to the initial sale price. Currently it is only available on select developments, but it’s predicted to be available across more homes in the future - it’s a good idea to keep up to date on developments in your area to see if the builder is offering the scheme. Properties available through the Shared Ownership scheme are usually sold through housing associations rather than developers, although this can vary - you buy a percentage share (between 10% and 75%) of the property and pay rent on the rest. Shared ownership homes are increasing in popularity and are a great way to start your buying journey. Developers, builders and housing associations will usually have their own incentives available as well, including occasional offers for Key Workers and Armed Forces personnel, so you should investigate to see what is being offered in your desired location.

If you’re looking to live near Birmingham but the city life is not for you, then there are plenty of towns and villages around the city boasting homes in a more rural location, including Wolverhampton, Solihull and Hall Green. These developments have a range of local amenities and services and facilities, including outstanding primary and secondary schools, doctors, dentists, childrens parks and leisure facilities. Birmingham also has excellent transport links, making it easy to travel around the city, as well as commute in and out of the city centre. New Street and Moor Street Station connect the city to towns and cities across England and the United Kingdom, whilst the West Midlands Metro tram system navigates key local areas. Birmingham also has an extensive bus network to take you to each corner of the city. Well maintained roads, including the M6 motorway, makes travelling around by car easy as well.

Birmingham has a diverse culinary offering which reflects its multicultural population. The city's dining scene caters to a variety of tastes and budgets ranging from traditional British to international cuisine. For a taste of local dishes, exploring the Balti Triangle is a must visit destination. It’s renowned for its Pakistani-inspired dishes, especially the Balti curry, a spicy and aromatic specialty. Digbeth is also a go-to spot for trendy restaurants and street food markets. For a more luxurious experience, the Mailbox and Brindleyplace feature high-class restaurants with scenic canal views. If you’re looking for a variety of entertainment in Birmingham, The NEC and Arena Birmingham host major concerts, shows, and sports events, while the Hippodrome offers incredible theatre productions. The Custard Factory and Digbeth area are hotspots for live music, and the city's pubs and clubs boast a lively nightlife.

Birmingham's museums and galleries offer a journey through art and history. The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery houses an extensive collection spanning centuries and continents, from Pre-Raphaelite masterpieces to ancient artefacts. For budding scientists, the Thinktank Science Museum provides interactive exhibits exploring everything from outer space to steam engines - a hands-on learning experience for all ages. History buffs can travel into Birmingham's industrial past at the Black Country Living Museum where you can step back in time and explore a recreated Victorian-era village. In the heart of the city, the Ikon Gallery and the Barber Institute of Fine Arts within the University of Birmingham showcases contemporary art from both local and international artists. Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter is a historic gem, renowned for its jewellery-making legacy, and is packed with workshops, galleries, and a range of jewellery boutiques.

There are a wide range of new builds in Birmingham that are suitable for everyone whether you are a first time buyer or a second stepper, or even looking to downsize - simply search from the listings above.
