Bedfordshire is a county situated in the East of England. It is a mainly historic county with three main local authorities – Bedford, Central Bedfordshire and Luton. Adjacent to Cambridgeshire to the east and Northamptonshire to the North, Buckinghamshire to the West and Hertfordshire to the East. Making Bedfordshire a home for a wide variety of people, with a wide array of lifestyles.

The main settlements in Bedfordshire are Bedford, Biggleswade, Flitwick, Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable.

Although Bedfordshire itself Is not a major travel destination, many of England’s main transport routes which Link London to the West Midlands and Northern England.

Bedfordshire is also the fourteenth most populated county in the UK, with its population mainly based in Luton (236 000) and Bedford (102 000). Two of England’s main six trunk roads passing through Bedfordshire one being the A1 London to Edinburgh which is also known as the “Great North Road” as well as the M1 Motorway which connects London to Leeds.

Bedfordshire also has access for many of the main railways in England, such as: West Coast Mainline, London Mainland and the East Coast Mainline which is also serviced by Great Northern Services to King’s Cross and Peterborough.

Popular attractions in Bedfordshire include Bedford Castle, which was a large medieval castle which was built by Henry I in 1100. However, in present day only the base of the Motte has survived. Other attractions in Bedfordshire include RAF Henlow, especially The Signals Museum which is focused on the development of communications since World War II. Other notable attractions in Bedfordshire also include Woburn Abbey which occupies the east of Woburn Village, it is a large country house which is also the family seat of the Duke of Bedford.

There are 2 Universities situated in the county one being the University of Bedfordshire and the other Cranfield University. Both universities attract students from all over the country as well as from Bedfordshire itself.
