Cheshire is a ceremonial county located in the North West of England. The county enjoys a small coastline, and borders on the North Greater Manchester and Merseyside, to the East lies Derbyshire, South is Staffordshire and Shropshire and to the West lies Wrexham and Flintshire, as well as a border with Wales. Cheshire is mostly rural, and is part of the Welsh Marshes, but has a population of around 700,000 and a few large towns, including Warrington, Widnes, Winsford and the county town, the City of Chester. Cheshire is a picturesque county, with one of the main industries being dairy farming, although the chemical industry is strong in the county thanks to the presence of salt mines in Middlewich and Northwich that date back to Roman times.
