Mellior Park was the original location of the Camborne School of Mines and is part of the Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site which benefits from many walk, cycle trails and visitor attractions being in easy reach.

Dining

For fine dining in the area you can eat at Carn Brea Castle a middle eastern restaurant atop the Carn or The Terrace Restaurant at Gwel an Mor. There are a few popular chain restaurants on the adjacent Camborne Retail Park,. Pool is also home to the Plume of Feathers pub, along with the Trevenson Restaurant at Cornwall College, where you can enjoy the finest output from their catering students at remarkably reasonable prices.
Head to nearby Camborne and you’ll find a fantastic selection of eateries, especially along Commercial Street, including the highly recommended Bengal Balti. The St Aubyn Arms and Ye Olde Shire Inn are all well worth a visit for a friendly welcome and delicious home cooked food.

Education

Just over a mile from Camborne, the development benefits from an excellent selection of both primary and secondary schools, and a further education college. Rosemellin Country Primary, Roskear School and Treloweth County Primary are all rated ‘good’ by OFSTED, while Trevithick Learning Academy is rated ‘outstanding’ over all. For senior pupils, Pool Academy is located right next door to Mellior Park and rated ‘good with outstanding leadership’. Alternatively Camborne Science and International Academy is the best performing state school in Cornwall and rated ‘good’ overall. For faith based schools, choose St John’s Catholic Primary and St Michael’s Catholic secondary. Cornwall College also has a campus very close to the development, offering a range of vocational courses for both 16+ and adult learners.

Leisure

There is plenty to do in the local area, along with a network of cycle ways, bridle paths and the Mineral Tramways an important feature within the World Heitage Site. Opposite the site is the Heartlands Park Heritage and visitor attraction which brings people to Pool from all over the world. The popular Cornish resorts of St Ives and Truro are both within easy reach at under half an hour’s drive.
Closer to home, you’ll find plenty to do in Redruth and Camborne, including the Art Deco Regal Cinema, Carn Brea Leisure Centre in Pool, Tehidy Country Park and Golf Club. Stithians Reservoir is also a delightful location for watersports, or a stroll and picnic on a summer’s day as well as the local award winning Tuckingmill Valley Park.

Shopping

Camborne Retail Park is adjacent to the development, with a range of retailers including Halfords, Bensons for Beds, Pets at Home and B&Q. Pool also has a famous indoor and outdoor market, which is open every weekend and bank holidays, and is the largest in the area.
Both Camborne and Redruth have a good selection of shops in the town centres, while Truro provides the retail centre of the County. Just 5 minutes down the A30 to Hayle you will also find the Loggans Moor Retail centre offering Next, Boots and Marks and Spencer. Penzance has the Wharfside Shopping Centre just a short train ride away.

Transport

The development lies just off the main A30 arterial route, giving easy access across the county. Penzance is 16miles, Falmouth 12miles, St Ives 14miles and Truro 12miles. Either end of the conurbation, Camborne is just over one mile to the west and Redruth around two and a half miles to the east.
Nearby Camborne Station may appear every inch the quaint country outpost, but it still has direct trains to London Paddington taking around 5hours. Trains to Penzance take around 20 minutes while trains to Plymouth take an hour and a half. There is a small car park at the station. Newquay airport is also easily accessed from Mellior Park for those further afield trips and holidays
