More information about Abbey Lodge...

Abbey Lodge is a beautiful development of 29 one and two bedroom retirement apartments and 2 two bedroom cottages located in the exquisite market town of Romsey. The Show Complex is now open.

Well-located on the edge of Romsey, Abbey Lodge is ideally placed for the town centre shops and amenities, which include a number of High Street shops, alongside designer shops, independent boutiques, galleries and a traditional department store. There are also a number of restaurants, coffee shops and tea rooms to suit all palates. Lively street markets are held in The Cornmarket on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and the town also hosts regular farmers’ markets and occasional continental markets.

Founded in Anglo-Saxon times and bought by the town from Henry VIII, Romsey Abbey retains many distinctive features including two rare Saxon crosses, elaborate and fascinating carvings and the deed of sale from Henry VIII. The Abbey holds regular services, events, activities and concerts throughout the year. A short distance from the Abbey King John’s House, a 13th century merchant’s house with beautiful gardens and the town’s museum.

The town is also home to the Plaza Theatre, operated by Romsey Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (RAODS), a small intimate venue which offers Pantomime, Musicals, Operetta, Drama, Dance and Live Music and The Rapids leisure centre offering a wide range of sporting, fitness, and wellbeing facilities.

Broadlands, the former home of the late Earl Mountbatten of Burma and located just outside of the town centre is home to an array of art treasures, antique furniture and wealthy interior design, which can be viewed by a guided tour and the estate hosts events throughout the year, as well as a series of outdoor concerts during the summer months. The nearby Sir Harold Hillier Gardens boast 180 acres of beautiful gardens, valleys and walks with colourful seasonal planting displays changing throughout the year.

Romsey is ideally placed for exploring the beautiful Hampshire countryside and fascinating places of interest including Mottisfont Abbey, a National Trust property renowned for its rose garden and a room decorated by Rex Whistler, the surrounding towns of Salisbury and Winchester and the cultural city of Southampton with four dedicated cruise terminals and an international airport.
