Dining

When it comes to eating out, Ely diners are spoiled for choice, with Trip Advisor listing no less than 87 eateries clustered around the charming city centre. Arbuckles offers American style dining with the Old Fire Engine House also popular with its British and vegetarian menu.

The Almonry, Market Street Brasserie, The Cutter Inn and The Prince Albert are also highly recommended. Head out of the city and you’ll discover a host of friendly village inns, such as The Plough in Little Downham or The Village Inn in Witchford, all offering a warm welcome and tasty home cooked food.

Education

Often in rural locations, the school run can take you quite a distance, but not at King’s Meadow. You’ll find the Ofsted ‘good’ rated Spring Meadow Nursery and Infants within easy reach, with Ely St Mary’s CofE Juniors right next door.

Older pupils can choose Ely College in the city centre, or invest a little extra time traveling to Witchford Village College to the south west or Soham Village College to the south west, both rated ‘good’ by Ofsted. Alternatively, King’s Ely offers independent education on a day basis for ages 2-18.  Cambridge is also home to the outstanding 'University of Cambridge'.

Leisure

Ely has a strong sense of community, with regular fairs and events held throughout the year. The small city centre has plenty to offer all year round, from the historic gothic cathedral, with origins dating back to 672, to a multi-screen Cineworld cinema for the very latest releases. A trip to Cambridge is also well worth the effort for the famous Footlights, which has produced many household names of British comedy in the past.

For sports, try nearby Littleport Leisure Centre, or The Paradise Centre in Ely itself, while for golf try Ely City Golf Club. Alternatively, for a quieter day out, take a stroll around the beautiful Wicken Fen National Nature reserve.

Shopping

Ely has held a market for centuries, and you can still find a huge range of stalls in the historic centre every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Ely is also home to the Cloisters Shopping centre as well as the pedestrianised Market Place and Dolphin Lane, where you’ll find many of your favourite name shops and stores along with a range of independents.

Nearby Cambridge has even more choice, with the Grand Arcade, Grafton Centre and Lion Yard making the city a must for shoppers. Don’t miss the bohemian boutiques and bars of Mill Road for something truly different. And remember, for that special shopping trip, the flagship stores and fashions of London are just over an hour away by train.

Transport

Ely lies around 18miles to the north of Cambridge and 30miles east of Peterborough. Thetford, Bury St Edmonds and King’s Lynn are all around 25miles away. The M11 can be reached at Cambridge.

Ely Station, three miles from the development, has plenty of park and ride spaces, and from here you can reach Cambridge in just 15minutes, Peterborough in 35minutes and London Kings Cross in around an hour and a quarter, with regular direct trains to all three destinations. Come holiday time, there are also trains to Stansted Airport, taking around 45minutes.
