About the Development

Amenities

The village post office is always handy for those day-to-day needs, with a good selection of groceries and staples on offer. For your weekly shop, you’ll find all the leading supermarkets represented in York, Knaresborough and Wetherby.

Green Hammerton has its own GP surgery, which can be found on York Road (Sat Nav YO26 8BN, call us). The nearest dentist can be found around 6 miles away at York Dental Practice in Wetherby (Sat Nav LS22 6NZ, call us).

Dining

The Bay Horse Inn in the village comes highly recommended, and is just a short walk away, so you can leave the car and enjoy a drink. Other local inns worth checking out include The Alice Hawthorn in Nun Monkton and the Bluebell in Arkendale, while The Nosherie café in Kirk Hammerton is also a popular stop.

With millions of visitors every year, York has more than its fair share of quality restaurants, with something for every taste and budget, from fine dining to big name family favourites.

Education

The local village primary school, Green Hammerton CofE Primary is just a short walk from the development, and was rated ‘good’ by Ofsted for early years provision and the personal development, behaviour and welfare of its pupils. Nearby Kirk Hammerton goes one better, with an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating for early years provision.

Naturally, older children will have to travel for high schools, with a wide choice available in the surrounding towns including King James School in Knaresborough, Wetherby High, St John Fisher Catholic High in Harrogate plus York High and Manor CofE Academy in York. There are regular buses passing through the village to get them to and from school.

Leisure

The new village hall is the centre of life in Green Hammerton, with a range of events, clubs and societies for all ages and interests. Bad Apple Theatre Company is based in the village and presents a number of shows throughout the year. Golfers will also enjoy the close proximity of Flaxby Park and Aldwark Manor golf courses.

For a taste of fresh air and history, visit Allerton Park and Stately Home, or the National Trust property Beningborough Hall, or you can go even further back in time at the magnificent Fountains Abbey.

As a major tourist destination, York has lots to offer for a family day out, from the famous Minster to the Jorvik Centre, the ancient Roman walls to the striking Clifford’s Tower. It also has all the entertainment you’d expect from a modern city, including cinemas and theatres.

Shopping

There is an excellent selection of shopping in the nearby towns and cities, from modern malls and traditional high streets, to out of town retail parks and outlet shopping.

York is of course famous for its shops, offering everything from the quirky independents of the historic Shambles to the big brand names of the Coppergate Shopping Centre. You can pick up a designer bargain to the south of the city at York Designer Outlet, or find furniture and homewares at the out of town Clifton Moor Retail Park to the north.

Transport

Green Hammerton lies just off the main A59 York Road, just 8 miles to the west of York and 10 miles east of Harrogate, and is connected to the two by regular bus services. The A1(M) is just 3½miles to the west, offering connections to the North East, the East Midlands and London. Knaresborough is 8 miles, Wetherby is 11 miles and Leeds is 26 miles.

Trains from nearby Hammerton Station, just 1 mile away, connect to Knaresborough in 11 minutes, and Harrogate beyond in around 20 minutes. In the other direction, York is just 15 minutes away, where you’ll find connections to London King’s Cross in around 2 hours.
