Hemlington was built during the 1960s and lies in-between the Middlesbrough suburb of Coulby Newham and the village of Stainton. Ashwood Park is part of a development of new homes on the site of the old Hemlington Hospital. Built in 1895, its purpose was to treat soldiers wounded on the front line in France during World War 1. However, no sign of the hospital remains today – just lovely views to the south over a patchwork of farmers' fields.
The area surrounding the development offers a range of amenities which include Viewley Hill Shopping Centre and The Parkway Centre, which is home to a wide range of stores and facilities including the Rainbow Leisure Centre, fast food restaurants and DIY stores. For even more shopping choice Middlesbrough and Stockon-on-Tees have a wealth of high street stores to explore. Other amenities include three primary schools in Hemlington and various secondary schools based in Acklam and Middlesbrough.Days out on your doorstep
There's lots to do in the local area including the nearby Hemlington Lake & Recreation Centre. Set within 39 acres of open parkland it's a popular destination for local residents and includes a children's play area, pathways for walking (or jogging!) and lake fishing. Newham Grange Farm is also close by offering a family day out visiting farm animal favourites or a ride on a mini tractor.
The surrounding borough of Middlesbrough has something for everyone, with a superb collection of restaurants, bars, pubs and a cinema.
