Closer to home, there are lots of friendly pub restaurants to choose from, including the White Hart, The Victoria Arms and the Cherwell Boathouse. For that very special occasion, book a table at Raymond Blanc’s Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, just a short drive away in Great Milton, which boasts not one but two Michelin stars. But book early as the waiting list is long.

Education

As you would expect from a city with the academic reputation of Oxford, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to local education, with an extensive range of both state and private schools within easy reach. In the state sector, New Marston Primary, St Joseph’s Primary and Bayards Hill Primary are all close by for younger pupils, with Oxford Spires Academy and Cheney School for older pupils. On the independent side, Rye St Antony School offers private education for girls from 3 to 18 and boys from 3-11. Other independent options include Oxford High School, Headington School and Magdalen College School. Undergraduates can choose from Oxford Brookes University or the many famous colleges of the University of Oxford.

Leisure

The city of Oxford attracts nine million tourists every year who come to admire the architecture of the dreaming spires, the unique treasures of the Ashmolean Museum and the classics of the Bodleian Library. And with a thriving student population, there’s always something interesting and exciting to do, from shows at the Oxford Playhouse or the New Theatre to gigs at the O2 Academy. Oxford also has first class sports facilities, including a climbing wall, a fencing club, several high quality golf clubs, plus of course, a great tradition of rowing on the Thames.
The kids will love a tour of Oxford’s Harry Potter filming locations, while older viewers can seek out the sets for Inspector Morse and Lewis. Plus don’t miss a pint at the Eagle and Child, where writers like Tolkien and C.S. Lewis met to discuss their famous manuscripts.

Shopping

Oxford offers all you could ever want when it comes to shopping, with everything from modern malls, like the Westgate Shopping Centre, Templar’s Square or the Clarendon centre, to quirky side streets bustling boutiques and antiques. Browse around the open markets amongst the ancient colleges or grab a bargain in the covered market in the centre of the city. To the north of the city, Bicester Village offers big brands at discount prices, while Searcourt Tower Retail Park offers out of town shopping with brands like Sport Direct and Homebase plus home furnishings from Dreams.

Transport

The Steeples has excellent commuter connections for both road and rail. It lies just off the A40 Northern Oxford By-Pass and is close to the main A420 route into the city centre, which is just three miles away. The M40 is just five miles to the east, speeding you to London in around 50miles. There are regular busses into the city along the A420, or you can avoid the city parking by using the Thornhill Park and Ride just along the A40.
Trains from Oxford will take you to London in under an hour, with services every few minutes at peak times direct to Paddington or Marylebone.
