Doncaster Lakeside is a deservedly popular local: close by is the famous Lakeside Village with its designer outlet stores, and the Dome entertainment, sport and leisure complex, where you can swim, skate, play, work-out, or go and see your favourite band perform. And then there is the lake itself - you can try your hand at paddle boarding, watch the annual dragon boat race, or simply take time out to follow the nature trails around the lake, enjoying the tranquillity.

Doncaster is home to the world's oldest classic horse race, the legendary St Leger which takes place every September. The town also lays claim to be the home of the oldest football clubs in England - Doncaster Rovers. The club, along with the Doncaster Lakers Rugby League Football Club and the ladies' football team, the Doncaster Belles.

Although Lakeside Village is the premier retail destination in the area, if you're looking for that traditional retail experience, Doncaster Market is the only show in town. Descended from the original Roman market is a destination in its own right.

Beyond Doncaster, nearby Conisbrough castle, dating back to the Normans, will conjure up visions of dungeons, dragons and medieval knights or, for more genteel experience you can explore the exquisite grounds nearby Cusworth Hall, an eighteenth century gem of a house. Alternatively you can drop in for tea with the only polar bears in the UK at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, or burn off some energy in the Forest Adventure Playground. And for those looking for outdoor adventure, the Peak District is just over 30 miles away.
