A development of new homes in Wherstead, a village located south of Ipswich. Bourne View enjoys a rural outlook, but is just a short drive from the many amenities of the town, which include shopping centres, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, leisure venues and the redeveloped waterfront and marina. Bourne View is situated on Klondyke Field in Wherstead, between the A137 and Bourne Hill. The development is two miles from Ipswich, 15 miles from Colchester and 40 miles from Chelmsford. The nearest railways station is Ipswich and from there regular train services run to Norwich, Colchester, Chelmsford and London Liverpool Street, among other destinations. Major roads easily accessible from the development include the A12 and the A14. Bourne View lies within the administrative boundaries of Wherstead Parish Council, Babergh District Council and Suffolk County Council.

For youngsters, well-regarded schools locally include Copdock Primary, Halifax Primary, St Mark’s Catholic Primary and The Oaks Primary schools – all of which can be reached in around 10 minutes by car. St Joseph’s College on Belstead Road caters for pupils aged three to 18 years old and is around five minutes’ drive from Bourne View. Secondary schools in the area include Chantry Academy, Copleston High School and Ipswich Academy – all of which are again around 10 minutes’ drive from the development.

Ipswich boasts a vibrant commercial district with many chain and department stores, specialist retailers and independents throughout its main shopping districts of Buttermarket, Sailmakers Shopping Centre Tavern Street, Carr Street, Westgate Street and surrounding roads. The town also hosts a market, which is open four days each week and takes place in Princes Street, next to the town hall.

Central Ipswich is home to a plethora of restaurants, coffee houses and boutique cafés, as well as traditional pubs and fashionable wine bars. There’s a multi-screen cinema in Buttermarket and another at Cardinal Park, around half a mile from the town centre. The New Wolsey Theatre presents a full programme of events throughout the year, including live music, dance, comedy, drama and children’s entertainment, while the Regent Theatre on St Helen’s Street and the Corn Exchange on King Street are both popular live music and comedy venues. Ipswich was once a major port and today its redeveloped marinas are a hub of activity for residents and visitors. The Waterfront is home to a range of fashionable eateries offering views over the River Orwell, as well as to the University of Suffolk and regional dance organisation Dance East. For sports fans, Gainsborough Sports Centre, is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the development and Northgate Sports Centre is 15 minutes’ drive away, each offering a range of facilities including fitness classes, a gym, sports courts and at Northgate, an athletics track. Swimming pools are located on Fore Street and on Crown Street (leisure and competition pools), and there’s an artificial ski slope at Suffolk Leisure Park, just 10 minutes’ walk from Bourne View.

Ipswich station is less than 10 minutes’ drive from the development, with regular services to Norwich in the north and Colchester, Chelmsford and London Liverpool Street to the south (journey time to Liverpool Street is 70 minutes). Major roads within convenient travelling distance of Bourne View include the A12 (for Lowestoft, Colchester, Chelmsford and London), the A140 (for Norwich, Diss and Cromer), and the A14 (for Felixstowe, Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket, Cambridge, Kettering and Rugby). The nearest airport is Stansted, which is around an hour away by car via the A12 and the A120.
