Living in Eastburn

Quality of life is about the details of everyday living.  From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you’re moving to will support you and your family, as well as being a pleasant place to live. So here’s some useful information about the area around Airedale Lea.

Leisure & Recreation

Eastburn Fitness Centre, a few minutes walk away, offers activities and classes ranging from Tai Chi and yoga to kick boxing and line dancing, while the Leisure Centre in Keighley incorporates leisure and learner pools, a fitness centre and a full-size sports hall. There are vast areas of open countryside to explore, from the farmland surrounding the village to the expanses of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, six miles to the north. The more unusual local attractions include the steam trains of the Worth Valley Railway, running from Keighley to the Brontë country.

Transport

Just a mile from the intersection of the A629 and A6068, Eastburn is well situated for access to Bradford, Leeds and Harrogate. Trains between Skipton and Leeds
or Bradford stop at Steeton and Stilston Station, around fifteen minutes walk from Airedale Lea, with the journey to Leeds taking just over half an hour. Eastburn
is also served by bus services operating between Skipton, Keighley, Harrogate, Ilkley and Burnley.

Recycling Facilities

Recycling bins for paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, drinks and food cans, shoes and textiles can be found at the Hall Street car park in Cross Hills.

Education & Health

Eastburn Junior and Infant School, praised by Ofsted for its rich curriculum and the commitment of its staff, is just 200 yards from Airedale Lea. The primary schools of Cross Hills and Steeton are also within walking distance. Pupils from Eastburn normally attend South Craven secondary, a large comprehensive that was awarded an ‘outstanding’ assessment in its most recent Ofsted inspection. Silsden Group Medical Practice, with a staff of 10 GP's and an associated pharmacy, is less than a mile away, and there is a dental surgery in nearby Cross Hills. In addition, Airedale General Hospital, immediately east of Airedale Lea, has a round-the-clock Accident and Emergency department.

Shopping

Eastburn General Store and Post Office is a family-run grocers, newsagent and offlicence, and there is a fish and chip takeaway next door. The High Streets of Cross Hills and Sutton-in-Craven include a large Co-op, butchers, bakers, hairdressers, banks and other services. Keighley’s shops range from a modern mall to a 70-year old covered market, and Skipton’s famous open-air market, medieval castle and traditional town centre are just six miles to the north.
