Education

City Fields lies within easy reach of a range of excellent state and private schools. For younger pupils, Wakefield Greenhill Primary has been rated ‘good with outstanding features’ by Ofsted, with Pinders Primary and St Austin’s Catholic Primary also rated ‘good’ and Heath View Community Primary yet to be rated.

For older pupils, Wakefield City Academy is just a short distance away and was recently rated ‘outstanding’ across the board, continuing a long tradition of excellence.

Wakefield College provides sixth form studies as well as a wide range of further education for adults, while Queen Elizabeth Grammar School for Boys and Wakefield Girls High School offer an independent alternative for secondary education.

Leisure

There’s lots to do in and around Wakefield, with something for everyone. Lightwaves Leisure Centre in the city offers a choice of sports, with further opportunities for action on the 100acre water sports lake at Pugneys Country Park. The Hepworth Gallery, Wakefield Cathedral, the National Coalmining Museum and Sandal Castle are all popular attractions in or near the city.

Shopping

Wakefield shopping has undergone a transformation in recent years, with the multi-million pound Trinity Walk Shopping Centre opening in 2011, to go with the existing Westgate Retail and Leisure Park and The Ridings Shopping Centre.

For a designer bargain, head for the J32 Outlet Village, where you’ll find sale-style savings all year round. Alternatively, for a bit of pure retail therapy, head to the shopaholic’s paradise of Leeds where you’ll find everything from international brands to curious and quirky independents.

Transport

Wakefield Westgate railway station is around a mile and a half from City Fields, with both the M1 (J41) and M62 (J30) within a three mile drive. Leeds is just 9miles to the north, with York a little further at 28miles. Castleford and Pontefract are under 10miles away, Barnsley is around 15miles and Huddersfield is around 20miles.

Trains from Wakefield Westgate will speed you to Leeds in just over 15minutes and York in 40minutes, with direct services to London Kings Cross in under two hours.
