Living in Harrogate

Quality of life is about the details of everyday living. From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you're moving to will support you and your family, as well as being a pleasant place to live. So here's some useful information about the area around Chene Hall.

Village Life

The local community organisations, include an active branch of the Women’ Institute, a drama group, football and cricket clubs, a choir and a playgroup. There are two traditional pubs in the village, the Three Horseshoes and the Greyhound, both around ten minutes’ walk from Chene Hall, and a celebrated coaching inn, the Boar’s Head, in nearby Ripley.

Transport

Buses between Leeds and Ripon via Harrogate pass through Killinghall approximately every 20 minutes during the day, with an hourly service in the evenings. Travel to Harrogate takes around ten minutes. Trains from Harrogate run to Leeds and York, and both destinations are less than 40 minutes away by rail. There is also a cycle path between Harrogate and Ripley, part of National Cycle Route 67, that passes around a mile from Chene Hall.

Shopping

Shops in Ripley, a picturesque village a mile and a half from Chene Hall, include a grocer and convenience store, a post office and a butcher. There is a farm shop nearby, and a delicatessen within Ripley Castle grounds. A wider selection of shops can be found nearby in Harrogate or in the beautiful market town of Knaresborough, with its charming streets of traditional local traders set alongside a choice of national chains, including Boots.

Leisure & Recreation

The Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, rich in wildlife, picturesque villages and historic buildings, including Fountains Abbey with its elegant water garden, begins just four miles west of Chene Hall, and one of its outstanding sights, the spectacular formations at Brimham Rocks, can be accessed using the area’s network of off-road cycle paths. Birchfield Farm in Nidderdale has a famous ice cream parlour, and Ripley Castle and gardens, a mile and a half away, hosts special events throughout the year. Ripon Leisure Centre incorporates swimming pools and a new skatepark.

Killinghall C of E Primary School is around 200 yards from Chene Hall, and The Grove Academy, Harrogate High and Harrogate Grammar School are all within approximately three miles. Killinghall Medical Centre, around half a mile from the development, houses GP practices, and there is a dental surgery in Knaresborough.
