The town has its own museum, cinema and leisure centre, plus a wide range of sports clubs from angling, athletics, golf and football, to croquet, tennis and bowls. The peaceful 11 acre Phillips Memorial Park and Cloister includes walks beside the River Wey, or you can hire a narrow boat at nearby Farncombe Boat House. See more than 1,000 shrubs and trees at Winkworth Aboretum, or take a stunning walk or cycle in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or enjoy spectacular scenery along the 153 mile North Downs Way.

Guildford is just six miles north on the A3100, while the major A3 trunk road from London to Portsmouth is within easy reach, linking the area directly to the capital and the M25. It also gives access to the A31 to Winchester which in turn connects to the M3 to Southampton. Godalming Railway Station is on the Portsmouth to London Waterloo line, with regular services to Guildford, Woking and London. Waterloo can be reached by rail in about 50 minutes. For air travel Heathrow Airport is an easy 32 miles and Gatwick is 42.
