The railway station in Cwmbran is 5 minutes from the shopping centre and is served by trains on Welsh Marches Line, trains south to Newport and Cardiff and north to Pontypool and Abergavenney. Founded in Cwmbran in 1179 by Hywel, Lord of Caerleon, is a Cistercian Abbey that later closed with the Dissolution of the Monasteries. By the 18th Century the Abbey was restored and added to and is now known as Llantarnum Abbey, home to the Sisters of St Joseph as a retreat.
