For a day out to explore your stunning surroundings, head for Cannon Hall Country Park, where you’ll find a museum and formal gardens, or Bretton Hall Country Park, or take a drive to the vast open spaces of the Peak District just a short distance to the south. The kids will also love a day out on Kirklees Light Railway.

Shopping

There is limited shopping within the village, but there is plenty of choice in the nearby towns, including the Alhambra Shopping Centre in Barnsley, The Packhorse and Kingsgate in Huddersfield, and The Ridings and Trinity Walk in Wakefield.

For even more choice, head for the multiple malls and galleries of Leeds or the mighty Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield, just a short drive down the M1.

Transport

This beautiful village has excellent commuter connections, with the A536 running right through the centre and Barnsley, Huddersfield and Wakefield all within a ten mile drive. Leeds is also well within reach at around 20 miles, with the M1 at junction 38 just a few minutes away.

For rail services, nearby Denby Dale Station runs trains to Huddersfield in just 26minutes, with connections to Leeds taking a further 20minutes. Alternatively, Darton Station, 6miles to the east, has direct trains to Leeds in around three quarters of an hour.

Leeds Bradford Airport is around 32miles away, with motorway most of the way.
