Dining

The village has an excellent choice of local restaurants, including Bon restaurant and wine bar and Saffron Indian restaurant.

You’ll also find a great choice of traditional country pubs in the village and the surrounding area, including the Red Bear, Oddfellows Arms and Forresters Arms in Sherburn, the Queen o’ t’ Owd Thatch in South Milton, the White Horse in Church Fenton and the Ash Tree in Barkston Ash.

Education

Like many traditional English villages, Sherburn in Elmet has its own schools, which are the centre of community life. In fact, it goes one better than most, with a choice of two primary schools. Children at Saxon Gardens can choose between Sherburn Huntgate Community Primary or Athelstan Community Primary, both of which are within easy reach of the development and both of which boast ‘Good’ ratings in their recent OFSTED reports.

All too often, living in a village means that older children face a longer trip to school, but here Sherburn excels once again. The village is lucky enough to have its own high school, Sherburn High, a Specialist Science School, which is within walking distance of the development

Leisure

Sherburn Aero Club is renowned for having some of the best facilities in the country, as well as a very active social programme that is the hub of village life. There are also many other popular clubs and societies in the village, including Sherburn Bears rugby league and Sherburn White Rose football.

Golfers will find a choice of challenging courses to the north, at Scarthingwell and Cocksford Golf Clubs, and there is a popular local angling club at Bacon Factory Pond. Garforth Leisure Centre and Kippax Leisure Centre are both just a short drive away, and offer a wide variety of facilities, including pools.

Nearby Leeds and York both offer a wide variety of days out and evening entertainment, including theatres, cinemas and sports facilities, with York’s tourist attractions drawing in 7million visitors per year.

Shopping

Sherburn in Elmet has a good selection of shops in the village centre, including a Boots store. There is also a traditional market in the village every Wednesday and Saturday.
For a much wider choice, head north for the endless fascinating independent shops of York, including the famous Shambles. Alternatively, head west for the many shopping centres of Leeds, including the 75 international designer fashion brands of the Victorian Quarter, the indy wonderland of the Grand Arcade, the magnificently quirky Corn Exchange and the 1million sq ft retail behemoth that is Trinity Leeds.

Transport

Just like its education provision, Sherburn has far better transport links than you might expect from a country village, with not one but two local railway stations, providing swift commuter access across the region.
