The ceremonial county of Wiltshire lies in South West England and is home to nearly 700,000 people. In ancient times the county town was Wilton, but the new council switched it to Trowbridge in the 1930s. Wiltshire's six century old historical heritage makes it the home of many historical landmarks; ancient landmarks like Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles are found in the Salisbury Plains. In fact two-thirds of the primarily rural county has a beautiful downland landscape, with lush green soft valleys. With a mix of activities available, Wiltshire caters to nature-lovers and adventure/activity seekers alike. It consists of 22 towns, most of which have their own cultural and educational facilities. There are also three colleges for those who wish to pursue further education. Rail, Road and Bus transport is very efficient within the county, and the RAF Lyneham - an air transport hub - connects the county to the country's largest airports.
