Lovell to build Bradford first eco-homes
Lovell are to work on a new scheme to fast-track the development of new homes on public land as part of a £5.6m developments for City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council. The scheme will create 45 houses for social rent – these will also be the cities first zero-carbon homes.
The development will include 12 properties completed the highest level of the Code for Sustainable Homes – Level 6 - zero carbon properties produce no carbon emissions to do this they must maximises their level of energy efficiency use sustainable technology.
The government deadline for homes to be built to be zero carbon is 2016 – but these zero carbon homes will be completed in 2011 – 5 years before this date.
Features of the properties include photovoltaic panels – to convert solar radiation to electricity and a communal biomass boiler.
The remaining 33 homes at the development will be completed to a level 4 standard, which will include solar heating and a rainwater harvesting system.
Lovell will be taking on two construction apprentices to work on the scheme as part of their commitment to providing jobs and training in the areas that they work.
