Newcastle upon Tyne (usually shortened to Newcastle) has a heritage spanning the past 2,000 years. The latest is the Gateshead Millennium Bridge a striking and innovative pedestrian and cycle bridge linking Newcastle to Gateshead Quays and the area along both sides of the Tyne is now being transformed into one of the biggest cultural and leisure quarters in the UK. Newcastle has three shopping centres, many museums, cinemas and theatres.
