Once one of the original Cinque Ports, the small, picturesque town of New Romney is now found a mile and a half inland from the sea, yet near the scenic beaches of Littlestone and Greatstone. The town sits on the edge of Romney Marsh, which is approximately 100 square miles of wetlands, gradually built up over the centuries to become home to diverse wildlife and some of the nation’s most endangered bird species such as Skylarks, Yellowhammers and Linnets.

The historic high street in New Romney, dating back to the thirteenth century, is still the beating heart of the town, and offers all the local shops and amenities you would expect including teashops, restaurants, pubs, banks, library, post office, supermarket and pharmacy. One of the town’s most prominent features is the impressive Norman church in the centre of town, which originally stood at the harbour side when New Romney was still a seaside town. A mooring ring outside the front doors and boat hooks attached to the side walls remain as clues to its past.

Transport links include regular bus services to towns such as Ashford, Dover, Folkestone and Hythe. High speed services to London via HS1 and to mainland Europe via Eurostar are less than thirty minutes away thanks to nearby Ashford International station. Coast bound train services are also run from local stations including Appledore, Ham Street and Rye, stopping at Brighton. And, as a real treat for the railway enthusiast there is the 14-mile long Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway. This miniature railway runs from Hythe to the National Nature Reserve at Dungeness, and boasts two steam locomotives and two diesel trains that provide passengers with a pleasant, scenic journey along its coastal route, and is even used by many pupils on their daily commute to and from school.

For families looking to move to the area, there are five primary schools within five miles of Mulberry Place, and The Marsh Academy for 11yrs to 18yrs is just a few minutes’ walk away. The Academy also hosts the town’s Leisure Centre, which provides the opportunity to enjoy a variety of exercises classes, kids clubs and activities. Alongside the school and leisure centre, there’s also the Community Hub; a contemporary and innovative commercial space designed for conferences and training sessions.
