A council area in Scotland, East Ayrshire was granted the burgh status in the early 1800s. Kilmarnock, the capital settlement is the hub of many industries in the area, including world renowned Johnnie Walker and Andrew Barclay and Sons. Cumnock, New Cumnock and Stewarton are the other major towns in the area. It has a rich and varied history with several renowned familiar sights. The castle and Barony of Robertland near Stewarton and Darlmore house and estate are famous for their 17th and 18th century architecture. One of Scotland's picturesque lochs, Loch Doon is found in Carrick. The Industrial Heritage museum - the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre - displays the old diesel and steam locomotives, as one of Scotland's prime cultural sites. Ayrshire, today, is home of the bakers who make the 'killer pie' or 'Brittians tattiest pies' and their culture is famous for its quaint characteristics.
