DiningWhether you are celebrating, or just can’t be bothered to cook, there is a great choice of local restaurants and gastro pubs in and around Rainham, with no less than 23 options listed on Trip Advisor. Tarana (Indian), Eight (British), The Barn (British) and Darjeeling Heights close to the development, all rate highly, along with Hons (Chinese), Tandoori Parlour, Meridian Spice (both Asian) and The Cricketers. There is also a family friendly Beefeater Restaurant at Manor Farm.
EducationEducation is every bit as important as commuter convenience for the modern family, and in Rainham you’ll find an excellent choice for your children. Miers Court Primary, close to the development, is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, with nearby Riverside Primary, Park Wood Infants and Juniors, and St Margaret's Infants offering easy to reach alternatives that are also rated ‘good’.
For older children, Rainham School for Girls holds a ‘good’ rating, while Rainham Mark Grammar School goes one better as ‘outstanding’. For independent education, Meredale Independent Primary, and the famous King’s Rochester offer excellent value.
LeisureLocally, Splashes leisure pool and Reynolds Fitness Spa will help you stay healthy, while nearby Gillingham is home to Waterfront Leisure and Woodlands Sports Centre. The Strand in Gillingham offers such fine facilities it was able to host the Modern Pentathlon World Championships. Golfers have a choice of two fine courses at Upchurch River Valley and Gillingham Golf Course. If you prefer to watch sport, rather than take part, Gillingham FC plays in League 1 of the Football league.
Capstone Farm Country park is great for some local fresh air and exercise, or you can enjoy the many walks along the banks of the River Medway.
For evening entertainment, head for the Oast House Theatre in Rainham, or check out the latest releases at The Odeon, Chatham, Cineworld Rochester or The New Century Cinema Sittingbourne.
ShoppingRainham has a small collection of shops along the High Street and in Rainham Shopping centre. For a more comprehensive choice, visit nearby Gillingham or browse the ancient streets of Rochester. Canterbury, Maidstone and Sittingbourne are all well worth a visit.
The legendary Bluewater Shopping Centre is just over 21miles away, offering over 300 stores and 60 different eateries, while the 30mile drive to Ashford Outlet Village could be well worth the effort for the huge designer saving on offer. Of course, for the true shopaholic, the flagship stores of Oxford Street are just a short train ride away.
TransportRainham sits on the A2 Canterbury to London road, with the M2 just a few minutes away. Access to the M25 London Orbital is just over 20miles to the west. Rochester and Sittingbourne are both around 5miles away, with Canterbury 27miles, London 40miles and Dover 42miles.
Trains from Rainham Station reach London St Pancras in just over 50minutes and London Victoria in around an hour. Ashford Station, around 30miles drive, has direct rail connections to Paris and Brussels in around two hours. London City Airport is around 40miles and Gatwick around 50miles.
