West Lothian is one of the 32 council areas in Scotland and is also a Lieutenancy area. It is bordered by the city of Edinburgh, Falkirk, the Scottish borders and both North and South Lanarkshire. The modern county was created in the year 1996 and was called Linlithgowshire until 1921. It mostly consists of towns and villages, such as Abercon, Blackridge, Seafield, Livingston, Broxburn and Bathgate.
