Situated by the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation, it was a booming 19th century mill town. Today, its many old mills have been transformed into stunning apartments and Dewsbury is now a major retail and commercial centre and a popular place to
call home.

In an enviable location, there are so many activities available in Dewsbury alone, as well as the surrounding areas. Dewsbury Town Hall is a great place to start; this impressive grade 2 listed building built between 1886-1889 not only serves the townspeople but is also used in many period TV programs and films.

A short drive away is Pugney's Watersports centre and country park which comprises a nature reserve with bird hides, a walking and cycling trail (bicycles are available to hire here), a fitness trail and  opportunities to do water sports (seasonally dependent).
