About the Development
The delightful rural town of Calne is so popular, this is Redrow’s second development there. Hardly surprising when you consider London is just an hour and a quarter away from nearby Chippenham, and Bristol is even closer, just a 30 mile drive.Amenities
The many local shops of Calne, including Sainsbury’s and CoOp supermarkets, are all within easy reach of Stockley Grange, for your both day to day needs and your weekly shop.Dining
Given its location, Calne has more than its fair share of coaching inns and several of these reflect the local landmark of the White Horse. The Ivy inn, The Dumb Post Inn, London Road Inn and the Talbot Inn, close to the development, all offer delicious home cooked pub grub, and there are plenty of other traditional hostelries ready to provide sustenance to weary travelers and locals alike.Education
Stockley Grange couldn’t be better placed for local schools, with both primary and secondary schools within walking distance. Holy Trinity CofE Primary Academy is rated ‘good’ by Ofsted, with ‘outstanding behaviour, personal development and welfare’, while The John Bentley School is rated ‘good’ across the board.
Calne is also home to first class independent education, with St Mary’s School for Girls, serving ages 11 to 18, which was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
Leisure
Calne has plenty to keep the family occupied, from the famous white horse carved in the hillside beneath the Wessex Ridgeway footpath, to Calne Leisure Centre with its first class facilities, including pool. Nearby Bowood House makes an exciting day out, with everything from exhilarating rope walks and the Space Dive, to the historic country house and Capability Brown designed gardens. Bowood house is also a luxury golf and country club with a challenging course. Golfers will also enjoy North Wiltshire Golf Course to the south east of the town.Shopping
Calne has plenty to offer shoppers, both on a regular weekend and at the many special events held throughout the year. There is an ancient market in the town every Friday and Saturday, along with fascinating specialist markets from time to time, such as the winter and summer fairs. Nearby Chippenham offers an even wider choice, with the Borough parade and Emery Gate shopping centers, plus out of town shopping at the Hathaway Retail Park.Transport
Calne once formed an important stop on the coaching route between London and the port of Bristol, and the nearby A4 is still a major trunk road between the two. Calne lies within easy reach of the M4, with J16 for westbound and J17 for eastbound both around 12 miles drive. Chippenham is just 6miles, Devises 8miles, Swindon 16miles, Bath 20miles, Bristol 30miles and Salisbury 33miles.
