East Lothian is one of the thirty-two council areas in Scotland which is bordered by Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders and Midlothian. The administrative centre of the county is Haddington and the largest town is Musselburgh. The area of the county was designated in 1996 and was originally called Haddingtonshire until the year 1921. Some of the towns and villages in the county include Gifford, Gullane, Ormiston, Port Seton and Innerwick. The county is small, with a population of less than one hundred thousand people.
