Saffron Walden is a charming medieval market town located just 17 miles to the south of Cambridge in north-west Essex.

It's an attractive town with a rich heritage of old buildings, including the impressive Jacobean mansion Audley End House and Gardens and St Mary's Church - said to be the largest and one of the most beautiful parish churches in Essex. To find out more about the area's history you can visit the popular Saffron Walden Museum.

The town centre has a selection of independent stores and boutiques, plus there's a Waitrose and Tesco Superstore for your weekly shop. A market has been held in Saffron Walden since 1141, and market days are now Tuesdays and Saturdays, with shoppers enjoying a selection of delicious local produce and wares. There's also a great choice of cafés and eateries.

There's plenty to do out and about in the town. To the north side of Saffron Walden is Bridge End Garden - a restored Victorian garden of great charm, which contains an impressive yew hedge maze and sunken Dutch Garden. In the centre of the town the Common is a popular place for local residents to enjoy some fresh air. Its turf labyrinth said to be the largest in Europe. The One Minet Park is also a hit with children of all ages - the first American skate park to be built in the UK.
