Barnsley is a former industrial town based around coal mining and glass making, which declined in the 20th century. the towns boundaries were extended and Ardsley and Monk Bretton were consumed in 1921.
The town has access to junction 36, 37 and 38 of the M1 motorway, with a railway station on Hallam and Penistone lines. Barnsley has a selection of stage coach Buses running throughout the day, followed by four trains per hour to Medowhall interchange and Sheffield.
Barnsley is located 16.6 miles from Doncaster and 16.2 miles from Sheffield, followed by 35 miles from Manchester so Barnsley is in a great location to access other big towns and cities. Manchester is a huge attraction in the UK which is in perfect location to Barnsley and has travel links to do this.
There was a new development started in late 2015, where a new shopping centre was to be built. There are now several high street stores such as Halifax bank featuring in this centre today.
