Surrey

Surrey is a home county located in the heart of South East England. It shares borders with Greater London as well as with Berkshire, Hampshire, Kent and East and West Sussex. The historic county, which has been populated since the Roman times, is home to nearly 1.2 million people. Its administrative headquarters are located at Kingston Upon Thames, an industrial and economic hub of the Greater London conurbation. Surrey included many parts of the modern Greater London that were ceded to the latter during the 20th century. The modern county comprises of urban centres with a large manufacturing base. The chalk ridge of the North Downs disects the county into two parts with the northern half comprising of the Thames basin and the southern half comprising of the Surrey Hills.
